Testing and Recalibration
We have a large number of high precision calibration devices and are in a position to calibrate all kinds of inclinometers, accelerometers and force transducers within the ranges defined below:
| Inclination | ± 90° to within 5 seconds of arc |
| Acceleration | Up to ± 20g to within 0.001g depending on range. Calibrations up to ± 1g are made using precision gravity references whilst measurements in excess of this are made using a precision centrifuge. |
| Force | 10 grams to 300 tonnes |
Specialized calibration engineers, under the control of Sherborne’s Quality Department and following internationally recognized procedures, perform all calibrations and tests.
A test report is produced and delivered together with the calibrated device, which defines the product reference, its serial number, a list of all certified standards as well as their certification numbers and a chart including all measured values together with the related errors. All calibration conditions are clearly defined as well as environment conditions such as temperature, humidity or gravity.
Sherborne Sensors offers a full range of repair and re-calibration services to ensure that you get the maximum service from your system and can comply with quality assurance requirements. As with any measuring instrument, it is recommended that sensors are periodically re-calibrated to give confidence that the system is capable of delivering the specified accuracy of measurement. It is for this reason that recalibration of calibration and test equipment is normally a mandatory requirement of most quality assurance systems.
The recommended general recalibration period is 12 months. Recalibration periods are purely a recommendation under normal service conditions and in general we recommend 12 months. This period has been arrived at from empirical testing of systems returned for recalibration and indicate a period over which it is likely that our products will remain within their original published specification.
However, there are several factors that may suggest the need for more or less frequent recalibrations including:
- Environmental conditions
- Frequency and duration of use
- Harsh treatment during storage, transportation or use
- The level of accuracy required by the user
- The importance of the measurement data
- The requirements of company Q&A procedures and / or national / local regulations
Ultimately it is for the user to determine the appropriate calibration period given the operational environment and performance requirements.
All transducers returned to Sherborne Sensors for recalibration or repair, (where recalibration is carried out after the repair), are recalibrated in accordance with same procedures used for new products using equipment traceable to International Standards.
Calibration and Repair Services
We offer three services: Repair, Calibration and Inspection.
Repair
Repair should be requested when a product is not operating to product specifications. Returned product will be inspected and evaluated and the customer advised of any fault found. A quotation will be issued to cover the cost of the repair for the customer’s approval prior to commencing any repair work. All repair work carries a 90-day warranty from date of despatch from Sherborne Sensors Limited. It should be noted that the repair warranty does not extend the period of the original warranty.
The REPAIR service is subject to the availability of parts and is only available if the product has not suffered excessive physical or electrical damage and is free from modifications.
If applicable, SHERBORNE SENSORS LIMITED shall not be under any liability whatsoever in respect of any data contained in any customer-generated software returned with a product.
Calibration
Calibration is requested when a product requires recalibration in order to verify its present performance characteristics. Returned product will initially be inspected and evaluated for correct function and customers are advised of any fault found. A quotation is provided if a repair/recalibration is not covered by warranty.
Inspection
Inspection is requested if the customer is unsure whether a product is faulty. Returned product will be inspected and evaluated and standard charges apply for this service. Customers are advised of any faults found and may be quoted charges if repairs are not covered by warranty.
